Section 508 Compliance

I’ve always talked about accessibility for the disabled when developing web content as I teach web development. But I also tend to discuss it at various points in the process (such as when we are working with images) rather than cohesively as we learn HTML programming in general.

Last week a colleague forwarded to me a nice tutorial on Section 508 compliance. I’ve added it to the resources for my web development course. If you are looking to understand how to make your code accessible – especially to web readers for the blind – you could do much worse than working through this tutorial. It’s good. And, it’s got me re-thinking the way I teach accessibility and coding in HTML5.
